A young woman and her father go into a local forest to pick up firewood and take it home. Her father falls, and then she falls. When they get back to their house, they find out that giants have taken over. The girl is thrown into the giant's cave where she meets Jack the Giant Slayer who gives them special armor so they can fight back against the giants. A "Jack the Giant Slayer" feature film was announced in November 2008, with Bryan Singer set to direct and Christopher McQuarrie writing the script. Singer had originally planned on directing a remake of "Wizards", but the project fell through. Production was scheduled to start in April 2010, with filming to take place in New Zealand. However, Singer left to direct the "X-Men" spin-off "", which left production of this film on hold. By October 2009, Singer was back on board for "Wizards" and Paul McGuigan signed on to direct the remake. On May 25, 2012, Singer was again attached to direct "Jack the Giant Slayer" for Warner Bros. Pictures. On February 23, 2015 it was announced that movie had been green lit with Andy Muschietti directing and David Katzenberg producing. On March 9, 2017, Andy Muschietti confirmed he will no longer be directing "Jack the Giant Slayer", adding that they are seeking another director to take over the direction of the film. It was announced on August 9, 2018 that Dan Lin would be producing a remake of this film along with Bill Collage producing with Jeffrey Silver serving as executive producer alongside Tim McCanlies writing the screenplay. In June 2016, it was announced that Jeremy Ray Taylor would star in the film. On July 31, 2016, it was announced that Ewan McGregor had been cast in the film. On October 24, 2018, Jack Black was cast in the film to play a young slayer named "The Giant" who must do battle with the titular giant of the film. On October 24, 2018, Jeremy Ray Taylor revealed that the CGI effects were finished on him for his character's performance for this film. He added that his younger brother will have an important role in this movie as well. The film was released on March 1, 2019. "Jack the Giant Slayer" was released on digital streaming platforms on April 2, 2018, before being released on DVD, Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D on June 12, 2018. On September 27th 2014, it was reported that Warner Bros. Pictures will be releasing a sequel to Jack the Giant Slayer in 2016. However this has not come to fruition yet to date due to poor box office ratings for the first film.
